How to Setup Mac Mail?

Requirements:

Before you can create your Mac Mail account with Smartermail you must set up your Smartermail email account.

 

Steps to setting up your Smartermail in Mac Mail

  1. From your Dock or the Applications folder, select the Mail Icon.

    **If you do not see your Mail Icon in the Dock select the Finder Icon
    And then choose Applications from the left.  From here you will find Mail listed on the right.

    Note: If you do not have a Mac Mail account currently setup a Welcome to Mail window will appear.
    If you already have Mac Mail setup and are just adding your Smartermail account proceed to Step 3.

  2. Enter Your Full Name, Email Address and Password as it is in your Smartermail.
    • Select Continue.
    • The Mail application will open. From the top Menu, select Mail and then Preferences from the dropdown.
  3. From the Preferences window select Accounts in the top menu. And then select + in the bottom left corner of the window.  Continue to Step 4, Add Account.
  4. If you do have Mac Mail setup and are simply adding you Smartermail Account

    From the Mac Mail Application select  File and then Add Account from the drop down.
  5. An Add Account pop-up window will appear, complete the following information:
    • Full Name: Enter the name you used on your Smartermail Account
    • Email Address: Enter the email address that you used to login into Smartermail. For example: name@yourdomain.com
    • Password:  Enter the password that you use to login into Smartermail.
    • Finally, select Continue.
  6. For the Incoming Mail Server section, complete the following information:
    • Account Type: The Account Type default is set to POP3. We strongly recommend you changing this to IMAP.   You can select this from the drop down.

      Note: If you access your email account from multiple devices or computers, such as iphone, ipad, work computer, home computer we strongly recommend you use IMAP. If you are only checking your email from one computer you can use either IMAP or POP3. 

    • Description: Enter the name that will identify your account, for example: Pencilneck Mail.
    • Incoming Mail Server:  Please enter mail.pencilneck.ca
    • User Name:  Enter the email address that you used to login into Smartermail. For example: name@yourdomain.com
    • Password: Enter the password that you use to login into Smartermail.
    • Finally, select Continue.

      Note: You may receive a message stating  “Mail can’t verify the identify of “example.com”, just select Connect.
  7. For the Outgoing Mail Server section, complete the following information:
    • Description: Enter the name that will identify your account, for example: Pencilneck Mail.
      • As you did for the incoming mail server.
    • Outgoing Mail Server: Please type mail.pencilneck.ca
      • Select Use Authentication
    • User Name: Enter the email address that you used to login into Smartermail. For example: name@yourdomain.com
    • Password: Enter the password that you use to login into Smartermail.
    • Select Continue.

      Note:  You may receive a message stating  “Mail can’t verify the identify of “example.com”, select Connect.
  8. An Account Summary page will appear, select Create.  

This will complete the set up of your Smartermail in Mac Mail.

Note:

If for any reason you can’t send or recieve emails successfully, make sure that:

  1. User, Server and Login information has been entered correctly.
  2. You have created your email account in Smartermail before you set up your Mac Mail account.
  3. The DNS has been successfully changed.
